Removal of linux-bin AUR package (suspended account)
I would like to appeal against PRQ#52152, which claims that the uploaded package is a duplicate. The package uses Debian's Linux kernel as source which (as was communicated to the TU and also stated on the package page) moves non-free (non-DFSG compliant) parts to separate packages*, making it a drop-in replacement for Arch's kernel for people who want to use a 100% free kernel, while also retaining the ability to load those parts individually. * https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-kernel-handbook/ch-source.html#s-c... -- Odoslané pomocou Tutanoty. Debian's Linux kernel is not needed nor useful on Arch Linux. Also the former is not a drop-in replacement for the latter, due to them stripping out some modules. On 18 December 2023 20:58:36 GMT+01:00, myself600@tutanota.de wrote:

Wouldn't a name like linux-dfsg or linux-dfsg-compliant be much better than linux-bin for this use case? The name linux-bin implies that it is a duplicate of the linux package in core...
There are already such packages such as linux-libre that actually target arch. -- Cheers, Aᴀʀᴏɴ
@Marcell Meszaros: The package is about solving freedom related issues, so I don't see a point in your comment. @Yifan Zhu: Naming it linux-dfsg in pkgbase makes sense to me. I'll change that in the next update. @Aaron Liu: Linux-libre is affected by https://www.fsfla.org/ikiwiki/anuncio/2010-03-Linux-2.6.33-libre ("Request for comments") and has to be compiled (AUR) -- Odoslané pomocou Tutanoty. Mars’s point was that that kernel targets Debian distributions and don’t have the patches wanted for Arch use.
