[aur-general] Request for replacing canon-ufr to cndrvcups-lb-bin
Dear AUR administrator, I am the maintainer of canon-ufr and cndrvcups-lb-bin. As discussion with Lone_Wolf, maintainer of cndrvcups-lb, the canon-ufr should be renamed to cndrvcups-lb-bin. Can you help to remove the canon-ufr and possibly move the comments to cndrvcups-lb-bin? Thank you. Regards, Allen

You have to upload a PKGBUILD with the 'cndrvcups-lb-bin and then ask for a merge.. Also, provide the links to the pertaining packages.
I have uploaded the cndrvcups-lb-bin. This is the link: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/cndrvcups-lb-bin/ And the link for the canon-ufr: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/canon-ufr/ Thank you. Regards, Allen

I just wonder how to pronounce it - or even remember it's name. What's the reason to come up with such a cryptic name

It's like canon driver cups without (most of the) vowels

Yeah, but why squeeze it in a dos 8.3 file name? canon-driver-cups is so much better is every way.
The name is the result after discussion with the maintainer of cndrvcups-lb.

Clarity trumps brevity everytime. I am sometimes tempted to rename one package I maintain (the ee editor), just for that one reason. As an end luser and consumer, it is a lot easier for me to find something called canon-driver-cups-lib-bin, if that is what you really mean. The AUR web interface doesn's allow searching on description texts last time I checked therefore using a descriptive package name is the right thing to do by your users. I rather ask the other maintainer to rename his package, not renaming yours in that incredibly cryptic and convoluted way. He may feel he is entitles having arrived first but when you do a publish a public work, your first duty is to your users. -- http://about.me/palopezv

*Sigh* Let me rewrite this with my reading glasses :-): I'd rather ask the other maintainer to rename his package. Renaming yours in that incredibly cryptic and convoluted way is a disservice to your present and potential users. The other maintainer may feel he is entitled to have it his/her way because he/she arriived first, but when you publish a public work as a service to others, your first duty is to your users. -- http://about.me/palopezv
For your information. The name cndrvcups-lb is used in the README file. The name is also used in Gentoo.

That's not an answer; I'm afraid you miss the point. I won't discuss the reasons further as I have already given my opinion. But I really must call on your sentence above. That is not an argumen at all. Whatever a TU does with your request is up to him, but I've read a lot of head scratching in this thread, including mine. -- http://about.me/palopezv
