[aur-general] package submission
I have created a new package build for SVox Pico, a small speech synthesis engine, and I'm in the process of submitting it to AUR. I must choose a category on the submission page. SVox Pico consists of a library for producing speech output as well as a utility that converts text on the command line to a .wav file. Which category is most appropriate for such an application? Would lib be best, or is there something else that may fit better? ~Kyle

How about "multimedia"? -- Chris

It would make sense if you could choose multiple categories...categories are always confusing. Ronald
Yes, maybe more like "tags" not categories. We from pro audio miss a more specific category too, like "pro audio", since multimedia is much to much to much broad!!

Not really. It is still under "Multimedia", generally. Only in technical circles does it get more cognitive and/or disciplined relationships, like "Electronics" and "Engineering". As far as we're talking about software, it's all just multimedia :)

I'm talking about a purely pragmatic point of view when trying to find a specific software. Often the user is interested only in "pro audio" bundles, but he/she has to look in the midst of a huge number of other packages that have no relation at all, but they are also considered "multimedia".
Well, with "tags" you could put more then one tag in a package. That's my feature request for next AUR release! :-)

I've often wondered how I should tag amateur radio software, in particular those used for data modes. Networking? Not really... Gordon MM0YEQ
I thought of that as well. Thanks, I think multimedia does work better. ~Kyle
