Hi guys,
I would like to contribute to the AUR, but it appears the account 'wget' has already been registrered, but no one seems to currently use it. It looks like someone has asked for a password reset but hasn't clicked on the confirmation link from the email yet. Would it be possible for you to unlock this account and release this username for me?
I'm experiencing the same issue with the BBS forum. I got 'Invalid username' as a response from the registration form.
It would be nice if I could keep the same e-dentity for the ArchLinux community, as I'm using the same nickname for the communities where I'm getting involved in.
Regards,

For the forums, email an admin. I doubt you'll have much luck, invalid username is probably a protective measure against very common names.

Hi guys,
Do you have any news regarding the request I wrote in the following mail I posted about 4 months ago on this mailing list?
Would it be finally possible to release that unused username to me? It seems like the guy who asked for that account has never completed the subscription process.
I would really like to contribute to the AUR, submit patches, give ideas of improvement, etc. but with the same identity I'm using on the other ArchLinux platforms like IRC, forum and the wiki (wiki where I'm quite active) and a fortiori on other open source projects.
Thanks!

Hi George,
Thanks for your answer!
i am not register bbs reason of anti spam question.it is never accetpt my answer.
Well, I had the same problem when I tried to register the 'wget' account on BBS, but I finally succeeded a few months ago. So my problem regarding the username account on BBS is now solved, but not for my AUR account yet.
Have you tried to register an account as 'wget' on the AUR too? According to the error message I get when I try to register it, it appears someone has asked for a password recovery but has never clicked on the link he received by email. If you don't use that account, could you release it to me, in that way, I could use the same identity across all ArchLinux platforms (AUR, BBS, Wiki and IRC).
Thanks a lot for your help; regards,

You should consider registering aria2 or curl, wget is taken and I see no reason to release it. (But I guess someone else will do that for you…)

Hi Barthalion,

Oh not this joke again ;-) Anecdotally, the 'wget' username comes from the contraction of 'William Gathoye' -> 'W Gat' (short version) -> 'wget' (when pronounced rapidly).
and I see no reason to release it. (But I guess someone else will do that for you…)
I'll wait for George's answer before asking another TU. Btw, ioni has already answered (in May 2013) to me via IRC, that he'll send an email to the owner (maybe George?), and if he won't receive an answer within the 15 days, he could maybe release the account for me, but I got no news from him since.

Hi,
The current account holder has no packages, has never voted, and the email address leads to an aggregator of internet advertisers. Even if this had not been raised months ago (and I presume Ioni sent an email and forgot about when there was no reply), I would have been inclined to release it. I have not sent an email message to the account holder as I have no desire to receive even more spam.
I have made the name lower case and changed the email address to the one you have used on this list. Reset the password via the interface and then confirm here that you have access.
Regards, Xyne

Hi Xyne,
Thanks a lot for your support!
Done! The account is mine and I'm using the same username for all the ArchLinux platforms now, thanks a lot!
I'll submit some PKGBUILD fixes in the next few weeks and ask to become the maintainer of some of the orphans I can find.
