[aur-general] Fwd: [arch-dev-public] Audio packages
Is there any TU interested in these audio packages? ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Allan McRae Date: Fri, May 1, 2009 at 6:31 AM Subject: [arch-dev-public] Audio packages To: Public mailing list for ArchLinux development <arch-dev-public@archlinux.org> Hi all, Do we have a dev here that wants to spend some time with the audio packages? They have not received much love lately... The jackbeat update requires moving portaudio from [community]. We also have ardour that is quite out-of-date but requires adding several deps to the repos. I updated jack-audio-connection-kit, but it also needs a rework of is rc.d script to actually make it useful and I have not had time to address yet (if anybody wants to do this contact me for the details). So, what do we do? Is there a dev who has time and interest to take these over? Otherwise do we bring someone onboard to maintain these packages or encourage someone in the arch-audio group to become a TU and move them to community? Allan
The LMMS maintainer may be able to take over. He/she has been doing a great job with it IMO, so I guess a few other audio pkgs won't harm. I'd be more than happy to apply for TUship and help maintain them as well (I once thought of asking Shinlun for sponsorship but he eventually stepped down and I never thought about it after that), but that'd mean the pkgs from extra have to move to community. Two important ones from there, or maybe the only ones, are ardour and jack. There's also hydrogen but there won't be an upstream release anytime soon.

Sure about hydrogen? Development is quite active and at least they planned to release in not too far future, but there are still a number of issues. Nevertheless I'm quite sure that the new qt4 version is already no worse than the current release. Regards
Not exactly sure that I can call that "sure", but based on the activity seen on their lists and web updates I'd surmise that a package suitable for inclusion in an Arch repo will not be possible soon unless the release is next month and it's as stable as 0.9.3, in which case it'd be purely awesome :)
