This is not expected from a git repo, when you makepkg -s it will pull the latest HEAD.

Package is also already flagged out of date but the maintainer hasn't updated this (and other of his outdated) packages in some time.

There is no need to update a -git package for a new commit in git :) -- Jelle van der Waa
