Gee Frederik what a guy... Thanks for all the effort in helping resolve the issue before deletion.

The build process is exactly as specified by:
https://github.com/atom/atom/blob/master/docs/build-instructions/linux.md

There's nothing the PKGBUILD in itself is doing in $HOME.

Thanks for your help Doug & Jelle. I'm open to suggestions as to how to resolve this?

Then report this in the comments instead of requesting a deletion request.
You are now not being reasonable and not providing the maintainer to fix
the issue.

I've build the atom-editor fine in clean chroot without any errors
about it not being able to touch my $HOME.
