MarsSeed [1] filed a deletion request for gedit2 [2]: Unbuildable old version of gedit from 2010. Has been broken for years on AUR at least due to broken dependencies, then missing Python2 deps, then incompetently replaced deps. It seems though that this build has zero prospective users on AUR, so it's not beneficial to keep. Also, there's virtually no pure-Gtk2 desktop environments available anymore in Arch/AUR repos. So it's not practical to stick to decade-old versions of GUI applications just for the sake of gtk2. (The AUR/gtk3-classic patched fork restores desktop window menu bar support and other traditional desktop GUI features for apps running on non-GNOME desktops. It's much better to use that with the gtk3 build of this pkg. Project is also active and welcomes further suggestions and patches.)
