Re: [aur-requests] [PRQ#11698] Deletion Request for lxc-snapshots
overmind88 [1] filed a deletion request for lxc-snapshots [2]:
Personal package with confusing name
This package provides the framework to run either openvpn or pihole via an lxc snapshots (see man lxc-copy) of a base container. An included man page explains setup, operation, and general scope. Definitely not a personal package nor named ambiguously.

Hmm "run either openvpn or pihole" "Definitely not [...] named ambiguously" This seems like it is hardly generic. What if someone wants to use this expecting to see a package which helps easily set up general-purpose LXC snapshots, what is your answer for them? "Yes, I know this is a 'snapshots' tool, but what I really mean is that this is explicitly only for use with these two programs I happen to use". I'd also point out this package has never been commented on nor been voted for by anyone other than you, and the githb repository has never received either issues or pull requests. I'm not seeing the overwhelming evidence that people thought this useful enough for their own use. I honestly do see where this deletion request is coming from... -- Eli Schwartz Bug Wrangler and Trusted User

The readme on github is pretty descriptive and well commented and as you pointed out below, the terminology I used is from upstream. I should point out that quite a few pieces of software have less-than-perfect names :)

It's a niche use I will grant you, but I see the github repo has been starred by 2 users. I don't think that wide-spread popularity needed for inclusion in the AUR. The software fills a niche use, is well documented, and works as advertised.

That's irrelevant
the terminology I used is from upstream.
You *are* upstream in this case, so that's sort of a weak excuse

Go ahead. I don't see how that changes that your programs name is *also* misleading.

Quoting the AUR Rules of submission as taken from the wiki: 'Make sure the package you want to upload is useful. Will anyone else want to use this package? Is it extremely specialized?'. When I referenced "upstream" I did not mean myself, I meant lxc upstream. Refer to the lxc-copy man page, the -s switch is short of in their terminology "snapshot."

I am aware of the rule and feel that this software is value-added. As I read it, the request was filed because someone doesn't like the name. That isn't a reason to drop something from the AUR.
