[aur-requests] [PRQ#35215] Deletion Request for lib32-ffmpeg-steam
MarsSeed [1] filed a deletion request for lib32-ffmpeg-steam [2]: I believe this package is not needed anymore. Context: Steam for Linux includes its own version of multilib ffmpeg. I think this package was created as a temporary workaround in 2020 for the following bug found at the time in the ffmpeg version included in Steam for Linux: [Issue: VAAPI hardware decoding video freeze (amdgpu) (closed)] https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/7150 And it seems later, in Spring 2021, Valve fixed this issue by updating its internal FFMPEG to a newer version: [Thank you Valve for updating ffmpeg in Steam! Now I can stream with hardware decoding on AMD without crashing!] https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/n3g7m1/thank_you_valve_for_up... This current package links to a very old lib32-ffmpeg-compat, based on ffmpeg 3.4.2, released in 2018. As the post from 2021 mentions an ffmpeg update in the Steam runtime, it is logical to conclude that Steam now contains a newer ffmpeg than what this package links to. So I suggest to delete this package. [1] https://aur.archlinux.org/account/MarsSeed/ [2] https://aur.archlinux.org/pkgbase/lib32-ffmpeg-steam/
