[aur-requests] [PRQ#7360] Orphan Request for discord
QCrusader [1] filed a orphan request for discord [2]: There were a number of issues raised with this package and the maintainer has chosen not to address them. While relatively minor they are quite numerous for such a simple package. Unfortunately this package, and discord-canary from which it was copied, include freetype2-infinality as an optional dependency to satisfy missing emoji in the application. This is not only incorrect it could easily lead the application's young and often naive user base to build and install something that will compromise the stability of their system. It appears the current maintainer has neither the time or respect for Arch Linux's packaging standards to bring this up to snuff. As active users have already volunteered not only criticism but corrections perhaps this should be yielded to someone with the time and experience to maintain it properly. I am actually in the progress of updating this right now, whilst they have a valid opinion here, I have never said I won't address them. -----Original Message----- From: notify@aur.archlinux.org [mailto:notify@aur.archlinux.org] Sent: Thursday, 26 January 2017 6:58 PM To: aur-requests@archlinux.org Cc: Cayde Dixon <me@cazzar.net>; nwcannabismarket@gmail.com Subject: [PRQ#7360] Orphan Request for discord QCrusader [1] filed a orphan request for discord [2]: There were a number of issues raised with this package and the maintainer has chosen not to address them. Sorry, but your message did not answer my question. What about freetype2-infinality or other packages you may have implied is it that makes you say that they "will compromise the stability..."? TBQH, I don't like the phrasing of that and the smell of FUD around it. cheers! mar77i

It's not FUD. There have been many issues with 3rd party freetype2 packages; most recently with harfbuzz needing a symbol only available in 2.7.1 with 3rd party packages lagging behind. With harfbuzz broken, many, many things crash, including gdk-pixbuf2, gnome, and KDE.

Come again? I don't have the package in question installed, but this reads awfully like a blatant overstatement. Could you provide more context to this rather harsh assessment? cheers! mar77i
Request #7360 has been rejected by Muflone [1]: Package was updated [1] https://aur.archlinux.org/account/Muflone/
