[PRQ#42169] Orphan Request for linuxcnc-git
jkercher [1] filed an orphan request for linuxcnc-git [2]: Package is out of date and maintainer is MIA. [1] https://aur.archlinux.org/account/jkercher/ [2] https://aur.archlinux.org/pkgbase/linuxcnc-git/
maintainer is MIA
I see the contrary. The maintainer is very active on AUR with keeping their packages up-to-date.
Package is out of date
Please show valid evidence of that. This is a VCS package. Just because the pkgver string on AUR is old, it doesn't mean the package has any problems. VCS packages are not considered out of date just on such grounds. You commented on the package page with your questions only 2 days ago. Please kindly give the maintainer time to respond. 2 days delay is not a sufficiently long time to be a good enough reason to file an orphan request. Hello Marcell, Thanks for the quick response. Not trying to be combative or anything, but my question was 12 days ago. =] Either way, the package has not been updated since the day after it was submitted (by the original maintainer). I thought (maybe incorrectly) that VCS packages were supposed to *generally *keep up with upstream. This package (version 2.8.0) is behind the main release (2.8.4). Upstream is 2.10.x currently. You make a good point though. I did not think to actually look up the user specifically, and I made the assumption that he was inactive. I will give him more time. =] Thank you! Yes, but they do that by running the pkgver() function[a], not by being manually updated, this package gives me version 2.10.0.pre0.r1536.ga62cd19967 when executing the corresponding makepkg commands. Also maintainers are discouraged[b] from bumping the version when there is no other change to the pkgbuild. So unless there is a new dep introduced this is not a problem! :) cheers, gromit [a] https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/VCS_package_guidelines#The_pkgver()_functio...
