[aur-requests] [PRQ#34430] Deletion Request for gvm
MarsSeed [1] filed a deletion request for gvm [2]: I suggest to delete this deprecated package, last updated in 2018. This was an unofficial Go language based dependency manager working with up to Go version 1.4, which is EOL since 2016. According to README, gvm can work with Go environment 1.5 but has to be built with Go 1.4. Meanwhile the current Go version is 1.18. Since 2017, Go project had the AUR/dep tool for dependency management. Later, Go has rolled out a new builtin tool: go mod. Both support standardized dependency management and canonicalized versioning. Contrary to those, gvm is nonstandard, unofficial and deprecated, and it cannot even be compiled anymore. Request #34430 has been Rejected by MarsSeed [1]: Revoking request. Seems I've misunderstood this tool. It's not a dependency manager but a go runtime builder (builds go itself from source). Seems complicated to use, it has hundreds of GitHub issues requesting help for basic usage because of build failures. Still, for advanced / niche expert usage, this tool might prove useful to some people. There are no new release tags since 2014 but the project itself is still very much alive, there are lots of commits since that time. This is not a VCS package but would benefit from being changed to such. In the meantime it's better to keep it as it is. [1] https://aur.archlinux.org/account/MarsSeed/
