[PRQ#44381] Deletion Request for ros-arch-deps
MarsSeed [1] filed a deletion request for ros-arch-deps [2]: Unmaintained metapackage "for building ROS" (Robot Operating System). Last updated in 2021. Not stated, but it is for "ROS 1". Not useful to keep: pulls in several deprecated, discontinued tools that are no longer used in the ROS toolchain and might even be broken. Current ROS distributions are referred to as "ROS 2". There is a relevant metapackage on AUR for building that: ros2-arch-deps. [1] https://aur.archlinux.org/account/MarsSeed/ [2] https://aur.archlinux.org/pkgbase/ros-arch-deps/
ROS1 (noetic) is still supported, it's EOL is in May 2025, and is actively being used by the community. I don't see a reason to delete this metapackage. On Thu, 13 Jul 2023 at 01:29, <notify@aur.archlinux.org> wrote:

I see. Thank you for your feedback. Please kindly check if the deprecated and discontinued python-rosinstall and python-wstool are still needed. I will cancel my deletion request momentarily. On 14 July 2023 18:55:51 GMT+02:00, Kartik Mohta <kartikmohta@gmail.com> wrote:
