Maintainer here. Where does it touch ~/.  ? The script only edits product.json from the specified locations (all in either /usr or /opt) to change dataFolderName parameter from pointing to wherever it does to pointing to .local/share/codium so the editor uses .local/share/codium as it's data directory.
