[pacman-dev] Support for SFTP?
Does Pacman have the ability to retrieve packages via the SFTP protocol?
I don't think so. Afaik, libdownload only supports ftp and http. But maybe you could just mount pacman cache (/var/cache/pacman/pkg) with sshfs ? http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Howto_Upgrade_via_Home_Network I'm not sure that's what you want though.

you might be able to bastardize something with the xfer variable in pacman.conf.

Thanks for the reply. It would sure be nice to have it. I like the way Pacman has been implemented. I would just like to use it in a network appliance type device that will only have secure protocols enabled.
