[pacman-dev] [Translation] Call for translations for 3.1 release
This is an announcement to all you on this list who wants to help out and make pacman available to your native language. I made a commit tonight <http://projects.archlinux.org/git/?p=pacman.git;a=commit;h=3170106149ce21d3ba5c68fc134672f08ddf793b> that updated all of our existing translations, and we have quite a few out of date messages. I've pasted the output below, slightly simplified so its readable. Entering directory `/home/dmcgee/projects/pacman/lib/libalpm/po' de.po 51 translated messages, 76 fuzzy translations, 18 untranslated messages. en_GB.po 125 translated messages, 9 fuzzy translations, 11 untranslated messages. es.po 49 translated messages, 78 fuzzy translations, 18 untranslated messages. fr.po 49 translated messages, 78 fuzzy translations, 18 untranslated messages. hu.po 51 translated messages, 76 fuzzy translations, 18 untranslated messages. it.po 125 translated messages, 9 fuzzy translations, 11 untranslated messages. pl_PL.po 49 translated messages, 78 fuzzy translations, 18 untranslated messages. pt_BR.po 16 translated messages, 46 fuzzy translations, 83 untranslated messages. ru_RU.po ru_RU.po:7: headerfield `Language-Team' missing in header 30 translated messages, 65 fuzzy translations, 50 untranslated messages. Entering directory `/home/dmcgee/projects/pacman/po' de.po 105 translated messages, 136 fuzzy translations, 200 untranslated messages. en_GB.po 400 translated messages, 37 fuzzy translations, 4 untranslated messages. es.po 95 translated messages, 134 fuzzy translations, 212 untranslated messages. fr.po 98 translated messages, 150 fuzzy translations, 193 untranslated messages. hu.po 166 translated messages, 37 fuzzy translations, 238 untranslated messages. it.po 400 translated messages, 37 fuzzy translations, 4 untranslated messages. pl_PL.po 98 translated messages, 142 fuzzy translations, 201 untranslated messages. pt_BR.po 98 translated messages, 142 fuzzy translations, 201 untranslated messages. ru_RU.po 98 translated messages, 142 fuzzy translations, 201 untranslated messages. Note that the huge untranslated message count is due to all of the scripts being gettext-ed. Please don't be intimidated by this- if you don't want to translate the scripts right now, then feel free to skip them. If I was deciding priorities: 1. Ensure all of the pacman proper (not libalpm) messages are translated. 2. Ensure all of the libalpm messages are translated. 3. Ensure all of the makepkg messages are translated. 4. Translate anything else. I will take any patch or correction, even if you don't have time to do it all- so feel free to send your updates in on the list! Please prefix any email with [Translation]; although [Patch] will be fine as well if you are mailing straight from GIT. Read the commit message above, the 'translation-help' file in the GIT repo, or join us in #archlinux-pacman if you have any questions. -Dan

Here's an update to the en_GB translation. I hope I made the git patch correctly. Jeff

Looks great, I applied it. FYI- your email address came across as jeff@jeff.localdomain, so you may want to set your user.email property (git-config --global user.email "myemail@domain.com"). I fixed it and commited to my working branch. -Dan

Poke... Any progress from anyone? Even if you don't have it all done, feel free to send me a patch, as something is better than nothing. I'm looking to release 3.1.0 to testing within the next two weeks. -Dan

Well, maybe I'm wrong, but you might have forgot about my last Hungarian translation patch (at least I didn't see it neither in the last commit nor in your working git repo). If not, I apologise for this "spam".

I will look around for this- I may have forgotten it in my jumble of emails. -Dan

Somehow, I may have totally messed up my own local git-repo today. It is not that things cannot be recovered - I just have to figure out how do to that. So ATM, please try the stuff below (it was the easier part to recover). Rest will follow, and I don't think that a 14-days time-frame is much of a problem here. Best regards, Matt

It applies fine, but remaking the gmo files causes some problems: make[4]: Entering directory `/home/dmcgee/projects/pacman/lib/libalpm/po' rm -f de.gmo && /usr/bin/msgfmt -c --statistics -o de.gmo de.po de.po:54: `msgid' and `msgstr' entries do not both end with '\n' de.po:403: `msgid' and `msgstr' entries do not both end with '\n' de.po:439: number of format specifications in 'msgid' and 'msgstr' does not match de.po:535: number of format specifications in 'msgid' and 'msgstr' does not match de.po:627: `msgid' and `msgstr' entries do not both end with '\n' /usr/bin/msgfmt: found 5 fatal errors 145 translated messages. If you don't go on IRC, feel free to shoot me an email with the details and I'll try to give you a few commands to try out. -Dan
Well, I may have relied too heavily on poEdit here. In a simple textfile, the errors are apparent. Please try to apply the patch below to the stuff I sent yesterday. PS: If you look at the end of the po-files (even at the very up-to-date it-version) you will find a lot of lines good for nothing - just msgid and msgstr, probably carried over from the sixteenth century. Did I get that right that these lines may be safely deleted? They do no harm, but still ... Am Mittwoch 19 Dezember 2007 23:23:50 schrieb Dan McGee:

Hi all. I wouldn't mind making a complete danish translation if need be. However, I'm a bit in the dark as to how I should go about it, any hints and directions would be greatly appreciated. Regards ndlarsen

You want to have a look at http://code.toofishes.net/git-guide.txt for git, and then at the translation-help file in pacman source tree.

Cheers. I'll have a look at it.
