What about providing fam from the gamin package? The gamin package contains a drop-in replacement libfam.so library, so applications linked against fam can work with gamin.

Sure, if someone wants to do this and move gamin to [extra], go ahead. I don't expect to have to touch fam ever again so I am happy doing nothing. Allan
