You should try a different distro, like Debian maybe. Being a rolling-release distro is one of Arch's main selling points, and seems to be completely the opposite of what you want.
Rolling release isn't the problem, its the regular chase to fix udev changes to how USB devices are automounted. While trying to apply a recommended 'solution' all the hidden files in my home directory disappeared so I have now gone back to ubuntu. -- mick <bareman@tpg.com.au>
