[arch-proaudio] No sound on kernel 5.10.16 with a HDA Intel PCH card
Dear list members, After upgrading to kernel 5.10.16, my sound card (HDA Intel PCH Realtek ALC892) stopped sending output to speakers and headphones. Audio files seemed to play. By downgrading to my latest kernel 5.9.10, sound output worked fine. In both kernel versions, alsa package versions where the same. Also, the card driver snd_hda_intel was installed. Could you, please, share a couple of ideas on where to search for a solution? Thank you

Hi Tasos, are there error messages in your kernel log from that boot (`systemctl -k -b`)? Does alsamixer show the devices? Are channels maybe muted? What does `aplay -l` show on each kernel? How do you playback files? Do you use pulseaudio? If so, what does `pactl list short` show on each kernel? Do you use JACK? If so, how do you start it and is it started on the correct device? Best, David -- https://sleepmap.de
@David Runge: Many thanks for your reply. Kernel log messages include no errors in v5.10.16. On the other hand there are no muted output channels in alsamixer. Also, the correct device is selected. The output of 'aplay -l' is identical in both kernel versions. To playback files, aplay and audacity where used. JACK is started either with the default device ('jackd -d alsa'), or by selecting hw:0 ('jackd -d alsa -d hw:0') but with no success. How do you playback files?
Do you use pulseaudio? If so, what does `pactl list short` show on each kernel?
Do you use JACK? If so, how do you start it and is it started on the correct device?

That is odd. Maybe a regression in the alsa modules. You could try getting some more information out of the alsa upstream (e.g. [1] or [2]). Other than that: I hope to upgrade the kernel to > 5.11 soon. Maybe that will fix your issues. You may of course also try linux-rt-lts.
