Hello everyone, I noticed that there are several duplicates of extra packages in the AUR or at least they share the same name. [aur-general] Status of the Chromium/Chrome packages on AUR

Hello to everyone! I had recently created a thread on bbs.archlinux.org here http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=79410 in order to discuss the situration for the numerous chromium packages on AUR. As I can see, they are getting more and more. I would like to make the discussion on mailing list so that more people would participate. Chromium in these packages comes from two sources: 1)build.chromium.org 2)a deb from ppa.launchpad So I make the same question: do we really need all these packages ? Shouldn't they be less and provide, from fewer PKGBUILDs, the different pre-packaged chromium browser ? Because they are mostly repackaging an already packaged chromium browser, except for (6). We have two chromium-browser that use a deb package --> shouldn't it be one ? We have chromium-browser-dev --> it is the same as 1 and 2, but it can repackage debs for both architectures. 5 is a l10n package, it is only for the repackaged debs. We have 4 chromium-snapshot PKGBUILDs (they provide the one from build.chromium.org ). Shouldn't there be only one, which will create a 32 or 64 package from one PKGBUILD ? Just like chromium-browser-dev (which repackages the deb one) and automatically ? As you can see, it is clearly a bit of a chaos here.

[aur-general] How to include sources from sourceforge + creating links not provided by package

Hi, I'd like to know how to specify sources coming from sorceforge in PKGBUILD, and example could work just fine. Also I'd like to know how to create a link automatically once the package has been installed. This implies removing it when removing the package. If necessary, checking if the link exists when upgrading the package (if the package gets removed before installing new version, that might be handled by the removing of the link when removing the package)... [aur-general] PHP 5.2 in [community]

Hi fellow TUs, Would you mind if I brought php52 [1] to [community]? While backward incompatible changes in PHP 5.3 are limited, last time I tried switching a server to it, it broke a Drupal site (due to some parameters being passed by value to functions that were expecting them to be passed by reference). It also seems that the PHP 5.2 branch is still maintained upstream, with a new version (5.2.12) currently in testing. After 'cleaning up' a package I'm maintaining (nginx-unstable), and verifying it can be built and works fine, AUR rejected the package. [aur-general] Trusted User Application

Hello Archers, This is Devin Cofer, aka Ranguvar. I'm writing because I have been thinking for a while about applying to become a Trusted User, and I feel that now I have enough basic knowledge of C, Bash, sed, and Perl to apply. I maintain quite a few<http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?SeB=m&K=Ranguvar>packages, and I'm very fast at updating them, if I may say so, going so far as to provide my own i686 builds for use by bin32-wine<http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=7915>when [extra] is taking a long time between updates :) The firefox-pgo <http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22296> and firefox-pgo-beta <http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22919> packages are not mine, but they were completely rewritten by me, as you can see from the comments there. I do officially maintain firefox-pgo-minefield<http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=32030> . I have sometimes contributed to [extra] and [community] work; I sent an initial mail<http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/aur-general/2009-October/007004.html>to aur-general about updating LLVM to 2.6, and worked on the PKGBUILD for it. Also, I filed a bug <http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/16165> for the speedup of Vim package building, and wrote a new script to handle fetching patches, which was much faster than the original (until another user used a better idea to make a far better package :p). Lastly, I have commented on other packages many times and suggested improvements (recent example being autoconf-compat<http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=7224>), and I submit regular bug reports and duplicate packages -- and I'm very active on the forums <http://bbs.archlinux.org/profile.php?id=18355>. As a TU, I will continue to try to improve the quality of AUR PKGBUILDs as a whole, commenting and offering suggestions, deleting duplicates, and orphaning long-out-of-date packages. As for packages I bring into [community], I will probably end up focusing on development tools. Xyne has kindly agreed to sponsor my application; he will likely reply to this soon. About my person: I'm a 1990 born student from the south of Germany, I study Computer Science(first semester) and use Arch as my main system now since two years and 4 days. I'm mainly active in the german part of the community as the international forums and IRC are too lively for me to actively participate a lot, so I mostly only read the topics, but don't post in the threads. However I read nearly every mail at the mailing lists (except for the ones concerning problems of Users with software I haven't used in years e.g. KDE), but as my opinion was often already stated I don't feel that I have to repeat what's already been said, so I mail rarely to the lists too. About my skills: I'm programming in C since a few years, though I mostly review code in order to learn more, I'm also capable of the basics with python 2.5, several BASIC dialects, C++, Objective C, Java and of course shell scripting. Whereas the focus for the next years lies upon C and Java as they're both needed by my study. About my packages: I maintain 10 packages in AUR[1], whereby I also participate in the development of the i3 window manager to whom's project family 6 of these packages belong(3 projects, each as stable and git package), the other four are the git package of the newsbeuter feedreader and the cococpp package which is a build dependency for the previously named, structorizer which is a Java program to design structograms (or Nassi- Schneiderman diagrams) and a mecurial package for objfw which is a portable framework for the Objective C language, not one of them was adopted. If you want to see their history, I also keep them in a git repository at github.com[2]. About my Application: I asked Stefan Husmann if he would like to sponsor me and he agreed to do so. I have two Arch systems, my laptop running an i686 installation and my desktop machine running a x86_64 installation, both run without the testing repository. As I have to use Java and corresponding util- ities for my study I'd take care of orphanages of the Java development segment, but also orphans in the topics I'm mainly interested in(window managers, development and networks). [aur-general] tablet waltop, linuxwacom 0.8.4-9 patch for waltop

I want this patch included in the package. It works with the tablet, WALTOP International Corp. Slim Tablet, two pen buttons are errored currently (both work like mouse middle click ?button 3?), but pressure and button 1 at pen tip work. The patch is one line to include the WALTOP vendor id, written generically at http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wacom#WALTOP_tablet_support_by_the_Waco… Another AUR package has this patch but the package failed to get the controllers from linuxwacom. awx was maintainer. http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=28999 I think other users may like the convenience of this patch included for their tablet. [aur-general] Orphaning request (pidgin-hotkeys)

Hi, pidgin-hotkeys is out-of-date for more than two years (0.2.4 has been released on 2007-06-22). Although this plugin doesn't seem to be developed actively anymore, I still use it and would like to see it maintained in the AUR (using a hotkey to switch to the next window with activity - just like Meta-a in irssi's default config - is quite useful). However, pidgin-hotkeys needs to be patched to work with pidgin>=2.2.0. The author didn't react on AUR comments for about 9 months and didn't respond to a detailed mail I wrote one week ago. Could you please orphan this package, so that I can adopt it and upload a working PKGBUILD? Best regards, Lukas Fleischer
