[aur-general] skype in [community]
Hi there, I just noticed that we have skype in [community]. After a quick review of their license I would assume we are not allowed to redistribute it: http://www.skype.com/legal/promote/distribute/ "You will not distribute Skype Software through other media than CD-ROM or DVD, unless approved by Skype in an explicit written communication to You." If I am not really wrong here I would assume we should remove that crap asap. As a sidenote: please read the license before adding any package to a repo. It's not enough to copy the license file into the right directory. :-) Pierre -- http://www.archlinux.de

You are wrong because I've got the permission from them. PS Replying to the AUR mailing list where this thread really belongs. -- Jaroslaw Swierczynski <swiergot@gmail.com> www.archlinux.org | www.juvepoland.com

What exactly does this permission include? Is it only a permission for you or is the whole Arch Linux project including all mirrors, devs and tus are allowed to distribute it? Perhaps you could attach what you got from skype to make things clear. Btw: don't get me wrong, I don't want to be a showstopper but I just want to make sure we wont have any legal issues by this. -- http://www.archlinux.de

My original request was: "I represent the community of Arch Linux distribution. I'm interested in making package with Skype (ie. repacking original tarball to fit our FHS and be installable by our package manager). (...)" When they agreed, I sent another mail with links to CVS entries and the package on Arch's server. They said it was all fine. Does it seem sufficient to you? -- Jaroslaw Swierczynski <swiergot@gmail.com> www.archlinux.org | www.juvepoland.com

You could put the email with the permission in /usr/share/licenses/$pkgname/ I think I did the same with sopcast (now maintainer by voidnull) -- Alessio (molok) Bolognino Please send personal email to themolok@gmail.com Public Key http://pgp.mit.edu:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xFE0270FB GPG Key ID = 1024D / FE0270FB 2007-04-11 Key Fingerprint = 9AF8 9011 F271 450D 59CF 2D7D 96C9 8F2A FE02 70FB

Yes, that's what I just thought. ATM that permission thing is not documented and the license included permitts redistribution ;-) -- http://www.archlinux.de

Hmm... Nice idea! IIRC we've got permission to redistribute VirtualBox guest additions ISO, so the same can be applied to that package. I don't remember who's got the answer from Innotek though. -- Roman Kyrylych (Роман Кирилич)
