There are only two AUR dependents specifically needing this: AUR/cntk and AUR/cntk-cuda, both of which are for Microsoft's Cognitive Toolkit that was discontinued after 2019. Those packages don't need static libraries as far as I can tell; also they are broken since at least two years ago because they need Python 3.7 but have not been configured to use specifically that. Therefore I would say it's safe to delete this old package because it does not seem needed anymore. MarsSeed [1] filed a deletion request for ffmpeg-full3.4 [2]: Unmaintained package. Uploaded and never updated in Feb 2018. (Version 3.4.2) There should have been regular updates, the next point release was published in July 2018. It does not specify anything in conflicts=(), even though it does conflict with AUR/ffmpeg3.4 and AUR/ffmpeg-compat-57. I have recently modernized and updated the AUR/ffmpeg3.4 package (there was a maintenance release 3.4.11 last month). Last user comment was in March 2018; there was no answer to that. I think it's safe to conclude that no one needs this package. (Also now it is broken because some dependencies are too new for it. I've corrected those kinds of problems in AUR/ffmpeg3.4.) MarsSeed [1] filed a deletion request for ffmpeg-compat-58 [2]: I believe this package should be deleted at least until Arch extra carries ffmpeg4.4. It is not useful to keep this imperfect duplicate of that in AUR. Also, the ffmpeg-compat-* naming scheme have been sunsetted by Arch a long time ago, opting instead to occasionally carry a parallel but full legacy ffmpeg version, cf. ffmpeg4.4 in extra, or AUR/ffmpeg3.4. The huge problem with ffmpeg-compat-* packages is that they do a full build, but then strip almost everything out, keeping only some versioned .SO files. Then it leads to the problem that no AUR packages can build from source against such an ffmpeg-compat package, because it does not provide the header includes for that ffmpeg version. In contrast, ffmpeg4.4 and e.g. AUR/ffmpeg3.4 carry everything including the headers, and cleverly solve the problem of side-by-side installation. ffmpeg-compat-58 is not needed specifically by anything on AUR. Those AUR packages that define depending on ffmpeg's SO libraries link to it indirectly via this package's virtual provides, but these dependent AUR packages would, as mentioned above, fail to build if the user did have this ffmpeg-compat package installed instead of ffmpeg4.4. All in all, not needed by anything, and ffmpeg-compat packages can prevent AUR's source-built packages from compiling. MarsSeed [1] filed a deletion request for ffmpeg-vp9-timestamp [2]: Orphaned package based on the legacy ffmpeg 4.4.1 package, backporting an as-yet unreleased patch from ffmpeg git master (after n5.1-dev). Build was reported failing 9 months ago but no one fixed the package. I believe this abandoned package is not useful to keep. It does not work and does not even declare its conflicts properly. I think if that specific unreleased patch was really important and urgent for the general user base, an Arch bug should be filed for such request. (But as of now, no one have done so.) (Or better yet: an ffmpeg ticket could be filed to get this backported to ffmpeg 4.4 and/or 5.0. But it seems that hasn't happened either.) So I see no point in keeping this package, broken, sans maintainer and without any indication that it is needed by anyone. Safe to delete; nothing on AUR specifically depends on this one.
