pacman-7.0 release planning
Hi all, I have finally had enough time to finish the privsep work. We now download all files using a dedicated user. This is ready to be committed (following any final review) [1]. Note that this currently only separates downloads - more work is needed for (e.g.) package verification to also occur in a separate process. I consider this marking the milestone for the next package release. I have started a tracker for what is needed to be addressed before the release [2]. There are more things that need added to the list... It just represents my bare minimum before release. Realistically, given my upcoming commitments, I think the release will happen close to the end of the year. Cheers, Allan [1] https://gitlab.archlinux.org/pacman/pacman/-/merge_requests/23 [2] https://gitlab.archlinux.org/pacman/pacman/-/milestones/1

I have created and marked merge requests for everything I'd like to get into 7.0.0. If there's anything else that needs to be looked at, I have a little available bandwidth at the moment for pacman-related things. apg

I have a small amount of time too... I pulled the last 6.0 translation snapshot, so I'll upload the new strings so a start can be made (noting that more strings will come before release). MR !96 and !102 from Morgan could possibly be added as targets for the next release - reviewing those would be helpful (I had a very quick once over so far). Allan
Hi all, The next release has been dragging on, so I have set a date of March 3rd (in my timezone). The release may not be 7.0 if DownloadUser work is not ready... We will go into a freeze from the 18th of February. That is not much time, so I need to see any patches to be included now and turn-around for any needed changes will need to be quick. I will endeavour to review things needed for the release quickly. Allan
