I agree.
I have never myself been very big on bootsplash screens and such.

I actually want to see what is happening when i boot my machine..or i
click the power button and go get myself some coffee or tea. yay me!

I wouldn't think we need to add complexity to our initscripts just for
this. I think documenting how people can do it themselves and
providing the companion packages (fbsplash,etc), is the way to go.
