I was going to suggest the same thing. And as you already have the git
tree, it should be no problem.

We must have an upgrade path that doesn't break existing setups. There
are two possibilities:
1) make initscripts depend on netcfg
2) integrate new netcfg into initscripts

James, what would you prefer here?
