This is only a question to make it complet. Do you append "CorePointer" to
your mouse device? Example:

InputDevice "mouse" "CorePointer"

Here http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=384682 the problem was the usb
port. Perhaps you can give it a try. But i must say if all works fine with
usbmouse for you than why should you test other configurations.-)
