You might be interested in taking a look at Sup
(http://sup.rubyforge.org/) which is a console-based email client that
takes many ideas from Gmail (threading, archiving most stuff, labels,
focus on search), but gets rid of top posting by default and doesn't
do html messages, etc.  I haven't actually set it up myself yet, but
thought it's on my todo list.
