Hm, I do remember hearing irritating PC speaker beep during installation,
but not after my system was configured.
Did you try to rebuild your kernel with CONFIG_SND_HDA_INPUT_BEEP=n
and muting the PC speaker in alsamixer?
Anyway it seems that this partially fixed in 2.6.31-rc1 (the
irritating frequency).
