I guess this is not going to change, Fons.
So, may I make one suggestion?

You could create a script to do the following:

1) rsync your /usr/lib to something like /libsforever

2) run pacman with provided arguments from commandline

3) rsync back whats in /libsforever to /usr/lib skipping older files


Its not pretty, I should say, but would work.
