[arch-general] Mysqld won't start

I compiled mysqld from ABS with some flag modification. But it doesn't 
start and I see this in the error log:
00619 12:44:23 mysqld_safe Starting mysqld daemon with databases from 
/var/lib/mysql
/usr/sbin/mysqld: Table 'plugin' is read only
100619 12:44:23 [ERROR] Can't open the mysql.plugin table. Please run 
mysql_upgrade to create it.
100619 12:44:23 [ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Can't create/write to file 
'/var/lib/mysql/s1.mrova.com.pid' (Errcode: 13)
100619 12:44:23 [ERROR] Can't start server: can't create PID file: 
Permission denied
100619 12:44:23 mysqld_safe mysqld from pid file 
/var/lib/mysql/s1.mrova.com.pid ended

It complains about this pid file or the socket. For now I have 
configured no socket in my.cnf, so I get the pid-file error.
Also I tried chmod 777 -Rf on /var/lib/mysql and /var/run/mysqld, but 
still its the same.
