Mostly because I like Linux / Arch better...?  It's a personal preference
thing :)

Anyway, I just ran across this thread with the solution:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1216670.  I had to add the four
"outb" lines to grub to turn off the radeon card and enable the intel card
and then everything worked.
