Do you have "gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme" set to "true" under
you "gtk-3.0/settings.ini"?

But that's a FF specific theme. Actually I was not aware of it, :-)
Perhaps it's changing the FF default behavior, which I'm not currently
changing at all. I'm just setting "gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme"
to true, and/or I'm just changing the gtk themes, not FF (I tried
both, with and without theme)...

I kind of understand the intention though. They're trying to have
contrast between the current tab and others. However in my opinion,
they only tested on light themes, where backgrounds are light and
fonts dark. On dark themes, where background should be dark and fonts
light, a light background like the one on FF, is weird.

I noticed this same effect on Midori browser (gtk+3), but they did it
the other way. Current tab dark, and other tabs lighter. And that
works well for both, light and dark themes by default.

I should take a look at the night launch FF theme on AUR, but
meanwhile I think I'll file a bug on FF, given the default on gtk dark
themes (notice that without any theme, just by turning
"gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme" on, things get weird). Not that
it's unbearable, but could get better the other way around, :-)

Thanks,
