Hello Peter,
What I wrote is about the extent of my knowledge. I'll add it to the
wiki, though.
I was looking for an rfcomm replacement, so I created a list of likely
candidates for the deprecated tools. I never tried them and for the time
being use rfcomm from the AUR: bluez-utils-compat
