Alex? Armin? Any thoughts or directives? Ok, here's the current status of my preparations: * I have written a nifty little script which should handle the shuffling of cvs entries and packages. * Modified /arch/db* and webdb/interface scripts to work with core and tags in packagenames. * Built new pacman, gcc & gcc-libs versions. My thoughts on how to do the move: * backup cvs-{extra,current} and scripts * move new scripts in place * create cvs-core, ftp-dir, ~/staging/core/{add,del} * run my migration script (takes 5-20 min I guess) * it will put the repos (core, extra) to /tmp, do a quick check and move them into place * run /arch/db-{core,extra}. * check core/{base,devel} packages for their correct groups, rebuild if necessary * fix & release installer * remove everything from current, put pacman, libarchive & libdownload packages with the tag stripped from the pkgname in there to ensure backward-compatibility. This is a better solution than a symlink to core imo. * announce How do we handle the various kernels (pmac, prep, powerstack)? kernel26-pmac should go to base, will prep & powerstack have their own core/kernels dir? -Armin From sacarde at tiscali.it Tue Sep 25 09:28:38 2007 From: sacarde at tiscali.it (sacarde) Date: Tue, 25 Sep 2007 15:28:38 +0200 Subject: [arch-ports] error in acpid Message-ID: <200709251528.38134.sacarde@tiscali.it> hi, I have installed acpid on archlinuxppc but when I start ./acpid restart :: Stopping acpid [FAIL] :: Starting acpid [BUSY] acpid: can't open /proc/acpi/event: No such file or directory I have apple-mini ppc thanks for help sacarde at tiscali.it From armin at archlinuxppc.org Tue Sep 25 12:32:39 2007 From: armin at archlinuxppc.org (Armin Luntzer) Date: Tue, 25 Sep 2007 18:32:39 +0200 Subject: [arch-ports] error in acpid In-Reply-To: <200709251528.38134.sacarde@tiscali.it> References: <200709251528.38134.sacarde@tiscali.it> Message-ID: <1190737959.5173.9.camel@localhost.localdomain> I wonder why we have that in the repo, I don't know of any ppc machines that use acpi, use pbbuttonsd instead. Pending tasks (I don't have the right permissions to do this): *) create /home/ftp/core/os/ppc and /home/ftp/core/os/ppc/setup *) move the db* scripts to /arch *) replace /home/cvs-extra with the version in my homedir *) move cvs-core from my homedir to /home *) create new cvs-core group and chown cvs-{extra,core} recursively *) update rsyncd & cvsd configs *) run /arch/db-{core,extra} as armin (my staging dirs are bursting, heh) The webdb scripts should be updated once I'm through with rebuilding and the iso. I mentioned this in a previous mail already: I'm against symlinking current/ to core/ for backwards compatibility like official Arch did apparently. Instead I propose to put pacman, libarchive and libdownload packages into ftp/current/ (without the ppc tags) and let them stay there for some months. -Armin Am Donnerstag, den 27.09.2007, 15:34 +0200 schrieb Alexander Baldeck: > Hey all, > > just wondered if anybody was already working on this? > > Cheers, > > -J > > _______________________________________________ > arch-ports mailing list > arch-ports at archlinux.org > http://archlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/arch-ports From armin at archlinuxppc.org Thu Sep 27 10:08:43 2007 From: armin at archlinuxppc.org (Armin Luntzer) Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2007 16:08:43 +0200 Subject: [arch-ports] [ppc] Core move & respective installer fixes In-Reply-To: <1190901840.31552.26.camel@localhost.localdomain> References: <46FBB168.3080606@archlinuxppc.org> <1190901840.31552.26.camel@localhost.localdomain> Message-ID: <1190902123.31552.29.camel@localhost.localdomain> Sorry, forgot this one: please tell me before moving cvs-core, as I'm actively working with that repo :) -Armin From zac at zacbrown.org Thu Sep 27 21:44:38 2007 From: zac at zacbrown.org (Zac Brown) Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2007 21:44:38 -0400 Subject: [arch-ports] [ppc] Core move & respective installer fixes In-Reply-To: <1190902123.31552.29.camel@localhost.localdomain> References: <46FBB168.3080606@archlinuxppc.org> <1190901840.31552.26.camel@localhost.localdomain> <1190902123.31552.29.camel@localhost.localdomain> Message-ID: <84DF570A-B778-4081-829A-F1CB782490AB@zacbrown.org> Been swamped with school work so haven't even had time to think about it. A pacman update will add /etc/pacman.d/core, please change all references to "current" in /etc/pacman.conf to "core to receive future updates. You are not forced to upgrade immediately as the [current] repo will stay for some time to provide some backwards compatibility, but it will only contain pacman, libarchive and libdownload. There's a new ISO supporting the core repo available from ftp://ftp.archlinuxppc.org/iso/releases. A note to the devs: don't forget to rename your ~/staging/current dir to ~/staging/core -Armin
