, essentially "don't kill the backup process or your partition will be
wiped".

This seems needlessly potentially harmful and likely represents a
severe breakage in the underlying software. Removing the "cancel" UI
button isn't a fix for potential data loss given the variety of ways
of closing or interrupting a program's operation.
