Looking at the upstream project on Savannah, there was a spate of
activity on 2016-04-17 through the next three days, which replaced the
build system with cmake. Please see if you can fix the build first.

Considering how alive things are(n't), it is well justified to update to
the latest commit snapshot -- if upstream isn't alive enough to
determine whether it is releaseworthy-stable, then the package
maintainer can make that determination instead.
