petr [1] filed a request to merge minecraft-launcher-beta [2] into
minecraft-launcher [3]:

The separate beta is over. Future development will focus on turning
the linux packages into something that resembles what we have on the
other platforms and will allow switching between update channels from
inside the launcher.
