Have a look at the "Using VCS Sources" part of the PKGBUILD(5) man-page:
https://jlk.fjfi.cvut.cz/arch/manpages/man/PKGBUILD.5#USING_VCS_SOURCES

You can just specify the source as this:
`git+https://.../mypackage.git#branch=develop`

That way you directly get the contents of `develop` delivered to your sourcedir…
