petr [1] filed a deletion request for minecraft-launcher-beta [2]:

This package is no longer necessary.

The launcher now manages its own updates at runtime using the same
mechanism as the Windows and macOS version.
Users can get `minecraft-launcher` and switch between update channels
from inside the application.
