I agree, that the command line is ugly, but
1. pacman is not distro specific
2. Archlinux has "rolling fashion" package upgrades; where pacman -S "pkg1 pkg2
pkg3 ... pkgn" is supported; thus dependencies should be filled in properly
3. The ugly command will prevent using it "accidentally"
4. This was a FR.
