Well, I made the following changes to speed it up by 40%:

< pacman -Sl > $pkglist
---
> pacman -Sl | grep "^$1" > $pkglist
42c42
< match=$(grep -m1 " $pkg " $pkglist | grep "^$1")
---
> match=$(grep -m1 " $pkg " $pkglist)
