Sorry to disappoint, but I setup project-specific vim settings a while
back, so the modelines don't make any difference to me personally.
I don't know how easy it is to do that sort of thing in other editors,
so it might be worth it to go ahead and add something like the
proposed EditorConfig.  At least it's a separate file and not mixed in
with the code.
