I seem to remember we had a lack of devs actually using PPPoE last time something needed tested.
I do this on my router and not my computer, so I can't help a whole lot here, sorry.
For something like this, you may be able to recruit a few community volunteer testers- I think that would be an acceptable way to get signoffs for things that the devs cannot test.
