[arch-dev-public] bluez status?
I would like to know the status of bluez in testing at this moment. GNOME 2.24.0 depends on the testing bluez-libs at this moment, I would like to move both at the same time. I lost track of this project, as they're not my packages. Any rebuilds pending? Any patches we need to apply?

bluez needs an update, which I have no time for. Many applications need to be patched to use the new bluez API, which I have no time for. I'd like to orphan bluez completely and let someone else take care of it, as I can't keep up with it. Anyone interested?

Hi Allan, I cannot help too because i cant test the packages, but i can help with packaging. I really would like to have gnome moved (i have been using it since jgc staging and it is really great) and start the python package combat =) -- Douglas Soares de Andrade -- Python, Django, Zope e Plone == Archlinux Trusted User and Developer - dsa ** Quote: Old programmers never die; they exit to a higher shell.

I am definitely orphaning all my bluez-related stuff, as it is too time-consuming and I won't be able to keep up with it. The only bluetooth device I use is my mouse anyway, so I can't do much testing either.

I have no experience with the bluez stuff, but I do have bluetooth capability on my notebook and WinMo phone. I would be happy to test out any packages if we have a criteria to test against.

Hi Devs, It's been sometime without any replies, would it possible for someone to have ago at the Bluez packages please? If not, may I suggest that an open announcement be made for a new Dev to take-over the Bluez packages and/or the Bluez packages be dropped to the AUR for someone else to pickup the slack. Thanks.

Ugh! Totem requires bluetooth stuff!? Since it seems this is a technology that virtually none of the developers (nor many of the users) seem to want or use, maybe we should consider compiling the above applications with BT support disabled. I'm just spouting ideas here, I have no idea if the above actually can be compiled without support, but it seems a reasonable solution. Then we could safely shift it back to the community/AUR for maintenance...

Hi all,
In the interest of getting this moving and improving Arch, I will gladly help someone to get Bluez moved into [core]. I have attempted to update the necessary packages (attached). Also, I noticed voidnull (Giovanni Scafora) has two bluez related packages in [community] and might be a good person to ask questions to.
bluez.PKGBUILD bluez-firmware.PKGBUILD bluez-gnome.PKGBUILD bluez-hcidump.PKGBUILD
## Notes: Thomas has limited time, some rebuilds will be necessary - http://archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-dev-public/2008-September/008251.html Red Hat should have patches if needed - http://archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-dev-public/2008-September/008252.html
# List of rebuilds needed?: gnokii (testing) gvfs (testing) libbtctl (testing) obex-data-server (testing) openobex (testing) qemu (testing) -- bluez-gnome-1.8 [extra] roman? bluez-firmware-1.2 [community] voidnull bluez-hcidump-1.42 [community] voidnull obexd-0.5 AUR -- Needed? http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/bluetooth/libgdbus-0.2.tar.bz2
# Redundant: bluez-libs bluez-utils
Is anyone going to attempt this rebuild? This is holding up gnome which is holding up python which means I can't slack of at work doing rebuilds... I will do these if necessary but I have no way of testing any of these packages so it would be better if someone else did this.
I would say just do it. I don't think any of us regularly use bluetooth.
