In the interest of getting this moving and improving Arch, I will gladly help someone to get Bluez moved into [core]. I have attempted to update the necessary packages (attached). Also, I noticed voidnull (Giovanni Scafora) has two bluez related packages in [community] and might be a good person to ask questions to.

I am definitely orphaning all my bluez-related stuff, as it is too time-consuming and I won't be able to keep up with it. The only bluetooth device I use is my mouse anyway, so I can't do much testing either.

I have no experience with the bluez stuff, but I do have bluetooth capability on my notebook and WinMo phone. I would be happy to test out any packages if we have a criteria to test against.

I would say just do it. I don't think any of us regularly use bluetooth.

Bluez has moved onto v4.14:- 16th October 2008, 10:30 pm "This release fixes some issues with the adapter driver handling and a potential crash with input devices. Bluez releases seem to have stabilised now - v4.17 is the latest.

Hi Devs,

It's been sometime without any replies, would it possible for someone to have ago at the Bluez packages please?

If not, may I suggest that an open announcement be made for a new Dev to take-over the Bluez packages and/or the Bluez packages be dropped to the AUR for someone else to pickup the slack.

Do we have anyone that regularly uses bluetooth and can test this?

Well, it is not quite that simple. From a simple scan the following packages depend on bluez: gvfs kdebase-workshop totem totem-xine From a look in the [community] repo, Giovanni (viodnull) maintains some bluez related packages. So, Giovanni, can you take this on?

Since it seems this is a technology that virtually none of the developers (nor many of the users) seem to want or use, maybe we should consider compiling the above applications with BT support disabled. I'm just spouting ideas here, I have no idea if the above actually can be compiled without support, but it seems a reasonable solution. Then we could safely shift it back to the community/AUR for maintenance...
