Anyone know exactly what's responsible for this? gnome-screensaver, pm-utils, gdm, ...? And if it's upstream or a distribution thing? (I think upstream).

That's the "shutdown / suspend" dialog that gets stuck for a bit. So maybe a gnome-session problem "gnome-session-save --shutdown-dialog"
