Weird Firefox & Thunderbird Context Menu/Right Click Bug
Hey guys, I dont know where to report this, as it could be related to firefox, thunderbird or gnome (or any other desktop related software). In the last 1-2 Weeks (I dont update that often) I noticed that after some time (have not found a reproducible reason) right clicks, or context menus in genral in Firefox stop working at all. The menu pops up for a few milliseconds and then disappear. When you restart firefox everything works again. I noticed the same isse in thunderbird too, which is also by mozilla. I did not notice it in any other application. I am using gnome as Desktop environment. Do you have the same issue? Any hint if this is a gnome, firefox or other issue? Cheers Nico
This is interesting and I'm also having this behavior since *months* - but only with the Vivaldi browser and there only when using the private mode. I use KDE and update more often a week. - Oliver On Tuesday, 17 January 2023, 15:33:37 CET you wrote:

I've been having the same issue for months with Firefox, using XMonad. I doubt this is a DE-caused issue. Possibly something to do with X. Might be worth testing it under Wayland. On Tue, Jan 17, 2023, 9:33 AM NicoHood <archlinux@nicohood.de> wrote:

I haven't had any issues with either Firefox or Thunderbird right-click menus with X and i3 (previously i3-gaps). On 1/17/23 06:39, Wesley Kerfoot wrote:

Good to know. I am using gnome with X, not wayland if that matters. I did not update for weeks, so it is possible that the issue exists even longer in the yet unknown software. On 17/01/2023 15:39, Wesley Kerfoot wrote:

Hello, Gnome by default uses waylands now, you optionally chose to use xorg? Thanks, -- Polarian GPG signature: 0770E5312238C760 Website: https://polarian.dev JID/XMPP: polarian@polarian.dev
Yes, because I use plank as a dock which only works with X :( And its such a nice dock! On 17/01/2023 15:43, Polarian wrote:

Thanks,
Hello, This happened to me too, it seemed to be when you updated firefox/thunderbird and did not update it. Restart the application and it disappears, not happened since. Hope this helps, Polarian

For a counter data point, to help you debug, I'm having no such issues, using this configuration: Firefox and Thunderbird XFCE X (not Wayland) See http://darose.net/FirefoxRightClickMenu.png for a screenshot. HTH, DR

Ah, so I’m not the only one… It only seems to happen in Thunderbird for me though, not in Firefox. And I’m on KDE Plasma, running X. Regards, Bruno/Archange

No issues here either: Xorg + LXQt + Fluxbox. -- Javier
I'm using the right click menu of Firefox a lot by an X, openbox session, but as another user, than the user running the openbox session, IOW with a xhost switch. I never experienced this issue. I also don't use a Firefox instance that was opened before an update. I open Firefox after an update.
