Hello all
I'm making my first AUR contribution and I would like to get feedback on this before I will upload it.
I'm making a minimal version of the popular IM client 'pidgin'. This will be called 'pidgin-mini' and its somewhat similar to 'pidgin-light'. pidgin-mini will have all additional features removed to the bare minium, including development header files, pkgconfig and aclocal scripts. You can review the package file at:

Hello, welcome among us packagers. Your PKGBUILD shows me that you did read the packaging guidelines and recent advices. There have always be discussions about adding a package hat already has a counterpart in some official repo. Normally such packages should not go to AUR and will be deleted. On the other hand we have mplayer-nogui or such things. Maybe this package is another example from that rule. IMHO in packages with many different configure options to choose some of them and to leave ot others can be a contribution of its own. So I would say, go for it. But there my be other opinions. Regards Stefan

I agree, while some 'counterpart' packages definitely should be left out of AUR, something like this is probably worth posting! Oh, and welcome aboard! Just to spread the info, the rule is that you can't upload a version of a repo package unless something is changed. Different configure options, patches, etc, are fine. The rule is in place because people sometimes want to upload version bump packages, which they shouldn't
Thanks for your feedback! I just posted my pidgin-mini to AUR. There are also some other packages made by me: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?SeB=m&K=henux If you are interested, you may also visit my homepage: http://nor.fi/~henrih/joomla The site is still a bit "under construction". Also please don't link to this site, as it's just a temporary solution. I will be moving elsewhere. -- Henri 'henux' Häkkinen
