[aur-general] AUR/[extra]/[community] duplicates
Hi, Just wrote a small script to check for duplicate package names in the AUR and the official repos and created a list of duplicates. For each of the packages I quickly checked AUR and [extra]/[community] package versions, AUR comments and whether there seem to be some additional patches in the AUR version. It might be better to double check tho... The following packages already are in [extra] and AUR versions seem to be equivalent or outdated: - gcin: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=39653 - gthumb: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=27129 - libwpg: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=25652 - perl-class-factory-util: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=25955 - perl-class-inspector: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=10540 - perl-datetime-format-builder: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=25956 - perl-datetime-format-strptime: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=9334 - perl-image-size: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=3286 - perl-time-hires: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=35514 - perl-xml-parser: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40119 - v4l-utils: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=38218 - xpyb: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19975 Following packages already are in [community] and AUR versions seem to be equivalent or outdated: - cadaver: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=8635 - cksfv: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=8688 - evas-svn: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19315 - gpsbabel: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=37028 - kim4: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=38648 - ktoblzcheck: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=9104 - lwp: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=8703 - perl-parse-recdescent: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=36080 - pulseaudio-mixer-applet: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=24016 - qoauth: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=28485 - remmina: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=38933 - springlobby: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=39670 - urbanterror-data: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=21493 - winegame: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=37828 - winestuff: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=37829 - wmctrl: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=1294 - lib32-alsa-oss: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=12815 - lib32-ati-dri: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=29742 - lib32-intel-dri: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=24770 - lib32-libmng: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=20890 - lib32-libstdc++5: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=11191 Quite a few packages that are already in the official repos are maintained by the Arch Haskell team in the AUR. I'd say they should be removed. It could be that some of those are newer versions than in the official repos (especially true of pre-built packages that are part of haskell platform). If that's the case then the packages that follow bleeding edge (from hackage) should be renamed to not conflict and/or cause confusion. /M -- Magnus Therning (OpenPGP: 0xAB4DFBA4) magnus@therning.org Jabber: magnus@therning.org http://therning.org/magnus identi.ca|twitter: magthe

Hello, thank you for your very long list. Can you provide your script somewhere, maybe in AUR? I removed all of the mentioned PKGBUILDS. Regardless if they are written differently or are even better than the ones in the repos: The AUR is not the place for packages equally named with packages in the repos. Regards Stefan

The gadmin-samba in AUR is mine. The version I have is the latest from the author, I have been working with the author of the gadmin-tools as well.

Sorry for the double post, though I did have the latest samba package, since now it is deleted and the one in AUR was the latest stable, and not a unstable version

I removed all of the mentioned PKGBUILDS. Regardless if they are written differently or are even better than the ones in the repos: The AUR is not the place for packages equally named with packages in the repos.
Regards Stefan
Sorry for the double post, though I did have the latest samba package, since now it is deleted and the one in AUR was the latest stable, and not a unstable version
Also the author updates his freshmeat.net account first http://freshmeat.net/projects/gadmin-samba I worked with him mostly with gadmin-samba, because of some compile issues I was having, and I came up with a patch for it to install correctly and so version 3.1 contains the changes that I added with my patch to the Makefile.

Well, it's actually two scripts: First, I used "aurpkglist.pl" [1] to query the AUR web interface and create a list of all AUR packages (I wish there was an easier way to do this). Using the generated list, you can do something like `pacman -Slq | cat - aurpkglist.txt | cut -d' ' -f1 | sort | uniq -d` to display duplicate packages. Since querying the whole AUR web interface for all packages each time is a waste of time and bandwidth, I created a cron script on my main server that runs "aurpkglist.pl" once a day and creates a gzip'ed list of all packages. You can get that list at [2]. [1] http://cryptocrack.de/files/aurpkglist.pl [2] http://cryptocrack.de/files/aurpkglist.txt.gz

Those are duplicates and can be removed as well: - apache: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=352 - dejagnu: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=14888
Remember that this will fail to find real duplicates if you're using testing and community-testing. What I did was make a new config with all custom servers, testing, and community-testing commented out and just supplied the pacman command in the given syntax (`pacman -Slq | cat - aurpkglist.txt | cut -d' ' -f1 | sort | uniq -d`) with the new configuration file via --config, resulting in a new syntax: `pacman -Slq --config /path/to/commented/config | cat - aurpkglist.txt | cut -d' ' -f1 | sort | uniq -d` This gave me more reliable results. Of course, this will also find "duplicates" inside the repos you use. Btw, you could also just use: `pacman -Slq core extra community | cat - aurpkglist.txt | cut -d' ' -f1 | sort | uniq -d` Might be easier than creating a separate pacman(8) config.
Duh! I knew that. Thanks. Right now, the only two packages it outputs are: apache dejagnu On Thu, Sep 16, 2010 at 7:08 PM, Lukas Fleischer <archlinux@cryptocrack.de>wrote:

Now there's aurdupes [1]. So you can just build and install it and use `aurdupes core extra community` to display all dupes in [core], [extra], [community] and the AUR :) [1] http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40869
Installed and working like a charm. Thanks for the contribution. I'll put this in my cron.weekly. :D On Thu, Sep 16, 2010 at 8:00 PM, Lukas Fleischer <archlinux@cryptocrack.de>wrote:

You can now even use `aurdupes --show-links` or `aurdupes -l` to make aurdupes output an AUR link for every AUR dupe. Just thought this might be useful in case any TU will use this :)
Just ran it and looks like the following packages are both in one of the official repositories and also in the AUR... - qrencode That package is 3.1.1-1 in the AUR and 3.1.1-2 in community, so I consider it a duplicate. Remove? On Thu, Sep 16, 2010 at 10:28 PM, Lukas Fleischer <archlinux@cryptocrack.de>wrote:

Yeah I know there isn't suppose to be the same package in AUR and the official repos, though I didn't realize there was already a gadmin-samba package in the repos.
